Dogs are welcome on the site, if kept on a lead at all times. You‘ll find many places to walk them locally. Sorry, we cannot allow dogs inside the pub. There’s no charge for fishing roach and carp in our campsite fishing pools. Both fishing pools are nicely relaxing, sheltered by trees. You’ll find a choice of shops in Llangollen, Oswestry, Wrexham or Ellesmere. Wrexham and Ellesmere are within a 15 minute drive. Come and join us in the Trotting Mare for local ales, a glass of wine, soft drinks, a light bite, evening meal or Sunday lunch. Our menu is freshly prepared with local ingredients. I am Gary, your host, looking forward to welcoming you at the Trotting Mare. |

Whats on nearby You can enjoy both Wales and Shropshire as the Wales border runs across the campsite. North Shropshire is lush, rolling countryside with, rivers, canals and lakes called ‘meres’. Ellesmere is just four miles, a charming market town with half-timbered buildings offering shopping, golf, fishing and boating. The old wharf tells of days gone by when the Shropshire Union and Llangollen canals were important commercial routes. Ellesmere is the largest mere, though some guests prefer the beautiful Colemere nature reserve and circular walk. |

Wrexham is a shopping centre, mostly pedestrianised: its Monday market is the largest in Wales. Wrexham hosts the National Eisteddfod music festival in 2011. On the outskirts of the town is the imposing Erddig House and gardens. A little to the South, Chirk has a fine 700 year-old castle with valley views and an historic canal aqueduct. From Trevor Marina you can walk across the dramatic Pontcysyllte aqueduct which carries the Llangollen Canal 126ft above the River Dee below. There are footpaths and picnic spots along the river or there‘s the Telford pub garden for refreshment. The bridle path walk to Llangollen is a level four miles with wonderful views across the valley and Llangollen golf club course. |

Llangollen is a lively town, overlooked by an ancient castle and bridging the River Dee as it spills over the rocks past riverside cafes and pubs. Llangollen hosts the International Musical Eisteddfod each second week of July. The Llangollen Steam Railway operates from the restored riverside station taking passengers to Carrog in the Berryn mountains. Walks around Berryn, the Horseshoe Pass and Carrog are particularly scenic. The are many wonderful places to visit in the Welsh mountains. Lake Vyrnwy and dam is a massive reservoir surrounded by 16,000 acres of RSPB reserve. See one of Wales' highest waterfalls, Pistyll Rhaeadr, plunge 240ft into a deep pool at Llanhaedr. Let’s not forget the ‘Trotting Mare’.If you enjoy horse racing, we are convenient for meetings at Bangor-on-Dee while Chester Race Course is just twenty miles. |
